If you’ve ever opened your refrigerator only to be greeted by a not-so-pleasant mix of onion, cheese, and last night’s dinner, it might be time to make a natural fridge deodorizer to eliminate unwanted odors. A fridge freshener can be made from just a few simple natural ingredients that absorb unpleasant smells while leaving a light, clean citrus note. Baking soda is well known for neutralizing odors, while lemon essential oil brings a gentle citrus freshness.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup baking soda
- 8–10 drops Lemon essential oil
- a small glass jar or container
- a piece of cheesecloth, paper filter, or a lid with holes
- a rubber band (if using cheesecloth or a filter)
Instructions:
- Pour ½ cup of baking soda into a small glass jar.
- Add 8–10 drops of Lemon essential oil.
- Stir gently to distribute the oil evenly through the baking soda.
- Cover the jar with cheesecloth or a paper filter and secure it with a rubber band, or use a lid with a few small holes so the scent can circulate.
- Place the jar in the back of the refrigerator.
The deodorizer will neutralize odors for about 3–4 weeks. After that, you can add a few more drops of essential oil or replace the baking soda.
